The therapeutic radiation treatment procedure is very precisely targeted only to the area where the doctor has carefully outlined on the CAT scan. Therefore, it is not dangerous in that the total exposure to the whole patient is minimal and well within all safety limits. While radiation treatment does irritate normal tissues surrounding the tumor being targeted, the repairing mechanism of these normal tissues does function correctly to mitigate the effect of radiation.
